In this picture, this is immediately after winning the national championship in 2002. So this is in Blaine, Minnesota.
I played rugby at the US Air Force Academy, and we have two national championships. Rugby is an interesting sport. There's really no hot shots in rugby because it’s just the way that the sport is designed. You're always watching the other person's back, and you expect that other person to be there for you.
If you look at this photo here, I think almost every one of us has been deployed, almost every one of us has been in combat. We lost Adriana. She was killed in action in 2015 by a motorcycle suicide bomber outside the base in Afghanistan. She was 36. She was in charge of the entire detachment, and she insisted on going on patrol with them. That was her style of leadership; she wasn't going to ask them to do something she wouldn't do herself. That's very much kind of the mindset of how we were raised to play the sport: that self-sacrifice that's for the greater good of the team. And that's why we were so good.
