EPISODE 8

Michael Kearns: Lessons from Nature

Story by Lucy May, WCPO.com

Michael Kearns of Cincinnati values the beauty of nature and the kindness of strangers. When Kearns, a lawyer-turned-photographer and father of twin sons diagnosed with schizophrenia, looks at this photo of the Snake River in Idaho from a trip in 2018, he sees much more than a breathtaking landscape. He sees the unsullied beauty of the United States and recalls the good people he met along the way. He thinks about how much he learns by traveling outside his home state of Ohio and how much he appreciates the diversity of thought and experience he encounters. He chose the picture for Ohio Values because he said it represents a snapshot of his political beliefs.
