ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:

“This is a picture of me and my daughter, Joy, and my neighbor, Michelle. It was taken at the trunk-or-treat for our neighborhood. Michelle was one of the first people I talked to about opening a child care business. She’s my neighbor, and she taught me a lot.

My daughter Joy is in the picture, and there are a lot of neighbors in the background along with other people doing the trunk-or-treat. Miss Michelle is in the picture too. I haven’t known her that long, but she helped me feel welcome as a child care provider in this neighborhood.

I think it’s just people power, because a lot of people came out that day for the trunk-or-treat. There were people from the neighborhood but also people from all over the city, all coming together so that our kids could run around the park and eat candy. It was a really nice day. The weather was beautiful, and there were a lot of kids running around and having fun together. I think it’s just a picture of neighbors and the surprising connection.”
