The West End

DeAnna Shores

My introduction to the West End came over 25 years ago. I know that because we brought my son home from the hospital to this neighborhood. We thought it was a good place to call home, so we settled in. Most of my memories from that time are centered around his birth and the experience we had while living there.

I have fond memories of really getting to know the community by walking around with my son.

To me, the West End represents a time and opportunity for transformation—to be reborn while also being rooted in something historical and meaningful. It's been exciting, and it continues to be.

I believe there is strength in the idea of culture and in being proud to be part of something bigger than yourself. It’s easy to get lost in the daily challenges we all see—not just in the West End, but everywhere. But the resilience of the West End comes from its deep roots in history, culture, and that enduring sense of pride.
