Milton Winkfield

“My name is Milton Winkfield, and I'm connected to Avondale through Peace Baptist Church, which is located in Avondale and has a deep history here along with my age. I guess I could tell you that I'm 71 at this juncture.

I'm sharing my story because I think it's important to have Christ in your life. And and when I look at this picture, it's a picture of the deacon ministry. And one of my mentors are on there, Deacon Freddy Johnson. I think that being part of the deacon ministry is about service, so it really taught me about being service. But it also tells you that those who aspire to be the or the work of deacon acquire a great degree of boldness in the faith. And I was ready to grow at that time. And when I think about my family, they were young and I thought, wow, I need to grow in Christ. And so it started me on that journey.

It tells me about a fellowship. You know, deaconship has a certain fellowship to it and a camaraderie to it. When I think about my family, I believe I was enriched because of my service and because of my love for Christ, and that I wanted to train up my children in the way that they should go. And, and obviously, one of the blessings is that they're all believers and they're grown with their own children, and they trust in the Lord. So that's the legacy that I want to leave when I'm gone.”
