ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
“This picture represents what used to be a vision in our East Westwood community. Here at Third Presbyterian Church, we envisioned having a community garden. So what happened was, there was a home right across the street from a vacant home, which we purchased. We were able to tear the home down, and we smoothed the land out. We started off with just land, and we built nine beds — nine garden beds. In this community garden, we are able to grow our own vegetables, all the vegetables we have grown so far this year.
We grow everything. I take all the vegetables home, wash them up in my sink, and take them back to the church. I give the vegetables out after service on Sundays, and then take the vegetables downstairs to the recreation center so the children can take them home. That way, their moms and they can all cook some healthy meals together.”
