ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
“I am the Club Director for the Roll Hill Boys and Girls Club, located inside Roll Hill School. Just being a community partner and working with the families, partnering with the school and the community center — like Mr. Reiser, Ms. Hill, and Ms. Lisa — it’s really about that connection between people.
They work so hard to provide so many resources for our families, trying to support them with whatever they need, whether it’s overcoming homelessness, accessing Wi-Fi, or simply finding comfort. They can walk up the street and have a conversation. They don’t feel disconnected from the community leaders here, and I really appreciate that.
Last year, Mr. Reiser approached us about partnering for their Spring Fest community event, and it was a phenomenal time. The kids had a great time, and we have a picture with some of my staff and the kids outside eating Kona Ice — we sponsored the Kona Ice truck for the event. You can see my supervisor, the kids, and me. Working with kids is such a blessing because it keeps you young and keeps you feeling youthful. We’re all sitting on the ground just eating Kona Ice, and that’s what it’s all about. They don’t feel like, because Miss Denisha has a director title, that I’m untouchable. No — Miss Denisha is going to sit right here on the ground with you, eat this Kona Ice, and talk about that kickball tournament we just had.”
