Jim Parrott

I work at the branch library in the West End at the corner of Ezzard Charles and Linn. I remember seeing the photo and it really struck me as meaningful. We had, and still have an ongoing weekly chess meeting kind of guide for the kids, and it was more involved back then and it culminated, at the end of the chess season with a tournament, an organized tournament, something fun for the kids; I think there might have been a prize, maybe prizes. And, one of the things that struck me was from this photo at least, and having been there and seeing the engagement that the parents had, it was wonderful to see that parents actually showed up and were like paying close attention to how their kids were doing and like seeing the interest and fun that they were having.

You don’t always see it, but the reality is, families are close and there’s so much support for each other.
