I wanted to talk about the Poro Beauty School. Back in the day, they had Madam C.J. Walker, but here in Cincinnati, we had Poro. Miss Anamarie Moore moved to Cincinnati from Columbus, Mississippi, in 1944. She went to Poro, where she learned the art of doing hair. She was a beautician from about 1946 to about 1970.
Every woman who wanted to make a life for her family, for her children, became a beautician. That’s when we were really entrepreneurs.
